  • Peace, Love, Happy Holidays + Bye-Bye to Bay Area Life

It’s a very special way to finish the year: Change. Life happens when you’re busy making plans to do something else.

It’s like you’re chugging along just fine, then up creeps unexpected, uninvited change, and suddenly you find yourself on a completely different path than you just were.

It is true what they say, ‘the only constant in life is change.

As difficult as change may be, it comes baring gifts. The gifts of resiliency, adaptation, surprise, curiosity, wonder, the ability to pivot, persevere- and sometimes even really good fortune.

The changes I’ve encountered along the way have been difficult- no question- but at the same time what I call synchronistic, or meant to be. This has taught me that there is so much more to life than meets the eye. Life is happening for you, not to you (think Tony Robbins said it first). And you are always supported and taken care of.

As if ringing in a whole new year is not change enough to adapt to, we are closing 2017 with a move- a big one- down to the opposite end of the country (yes, again!), from Northern California down to the Southwest. Yes, it’s true. We are moving {AGAIN!}.

This has been a year full of obstacles, uncertainty and unpredictable twists and turns. Beautiful new friends, experiences. Another new home. A new dog. And yet again, another new home (I am getting very good at styling a home at least, just FYI).

I’ve done this many times before so I know the range of emotions that come along with a big move. The excitement of new beginnings shares the same moment with the grief of the life we are leaving behind. It’s a process of paradoxes- happy + sad, birth + death, etc. etc.

Bittersweet, to say the least. Happy to be going where I’m going- a place I love- but extremely saddened to leave what I’m leaving behind- a place I love.

It feels like a chapter that is ending too soon. Isn’t there so much more to this story? Wait- it feels like we just got here. We did. Such is life.

New beginnings. The newness. The possibilities. Staying in the excitement and wonder of it is key. Stay curious. Reframing what may feel like uncertainty and overwhelm as excitement and curiosity helps keep my mind right.

Enough babbling about my life and philosophy there of…let’s see some cool pictures. These photos were shot for our family Christmas card at the Marin Headlands, California, by one special lady {who else but} Jessie Cagliero. This happens to be my very last photoshoot in California, and with Jessie, so these shots will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope you enjoy them as much I have!

Cheers! And I wish you and your family the very happiest of holidays and a healthy New Year!

All items from my personal archives (in other words, I’ve had them for so long I have no clue where they even came from).

Stay tune for what I expect to be a really exciting next chapter of my life, my work and this blog. Thank you for being here, reading, following and supporting something I love so much- to be an advocate and inspiration to others, merging style, sustainability and self-esteem for a modern girl in a material world! See you in 2018!

Get involved. Become part of the movement for a healthier, more sustainable fashion world. I believe that together we can change the face of fashion.  Wear what you love and wear what empowers you. Also consider where your clothes were made and who made them. Your purchase may empower the person who made them (or not).

Shop wisely. Every purchase is a vote. Make yours count. Dress in clothing you love and that have a positive impact on you and the rest of the world.

*The items featured on this blog are what I consider sustainable fashion and/or are items I have owned for a very long time- which I would then consider a sustainable fashion choice simply for the longevity of it.
