  • Gifting Goals: The Ethical fashion Gift Set

The holidays are here and we’ve all got packed schedules, obligations, parties, and likely plenty of gifts to buy. How can you not feel Cheery? kidding. Most of my life I’ve loved Christmas for the sheer excuse to buy something nice for someone that’s hopefully going to brighten their day.

But these last few years, as I get more informed of the influence of consumerism & the greedy side of capitalism, and the horrific impact on the environment {I am saddened even writing that}, I get more and more haggard over the whole buying and gifting tradition. I simply can not deal with the waste, overconsumption, and obnoxious advertising that is everywhere we turn.

If you’ve been reading my blog at all then you know I like to speak candidly, openly- in other words no sugarcoating. So, here I am in a holiday paradox- I do love giving gifts and I will. But knowing how so many items are made and the impact on the planet, I feel conflicted at times, to say the least.

I can not unsee what I have seen. Staying disciplined to only buying gifts that people need and seeking out ethical, sustainable and fair trade options as often as possible, has actually helped me get back in the holiday spirit- just a bit.

I actually love creating thoughtful gift sets myself. But to be truthful, these things take time, and when the holidays roll around it seems time is of the essence. To make life easier, why not send a pre-made gift set? And even better- one that supports the fair trade, sustainable, ethical fashion industry. (read on)

Voting with your dollars. As you know, I’m a huge fan of shopping for a cause (see last week’s post) and inspiring people to make more conscious shopping choices. One of my favorite resources is Ethical and Fair Trade brand Bead & Reel.

    Perfect timing!

Bead & Reel has put together the Ethical Fashion Starter Kit Gift Set, a beautiful and practical solution. It is not only lovely to look at- who doesn’t love to receive pretty things? {ME!} -but every item was carefully chosen to enlighten you to the World of Ethical fashion in a practical & educational way. Which, imo ETHICAL FASHION IS THE FUTURE OF FASHION. period. Trust me- once you know better, you do better. I have.

    The Gift

The Ethical Fashion Gift Box by Bead & Reel  is an exclusive gift set including all the vegan, organic, fair trade basics you may need to begin your Ethical Fashion lifestyle, even a Bead & Reel $10 gift card to further grow your ethical fashion wardrobe (larger increments can be purchased as well).

*Orders must be placed by midnight PST 12/18 in order to be received by Christmas.

    • Hope Scarf: Handmade scarf that reinvests into refugee women in Kenya. Oh- where do a start with scarfs? A gift I love to give- and to get. If you’re someone who’s going for a capsule wardrobe or just wants to stretch their wardrobe on a budget- scarfs are a must! Adding a new scarf can reinvigorate your old basics just like that. For this reason, they have a soft spot in my sustainable style-loving heart because I can keep wearing my old favorites, but look & feel like my outfit is brand new. Cotton/rayon blend that’s native to the region in which they are made; vegan. {I might need to do an entire post on just this scarf. I’ve been wearing it everywhere- stay tuned, wink}

    • Just Breathe Socks: Again, a gift I am always thrilled to give and to get because they are so practical. These socks even come with a message I always seem to need, Just Breathe, that helps me feel grounded and balanced. Organic cotton.

    • Wallet: A fair trade reminder to vote for the world you want. Every dollar you spend is a vote for what you want to see more of in the world. Just by choosing and purchasing differently, you have more influence on the state of the world than you may think. Shop wisely.

    • Magnifeco by Kate Black: Your Head-To-Toe Guide to Ethical Fashion and Non-Toxic Beauty. Who doesn’t love a good book to dig into? Enlightening, educational and inspiring. Grab your favorite warm beverage and comfy fair trade socks because you’ll want to get cozy and sink yourself into this one.

    • Clean Laundry: Two variations of cruelty-free, vegan, Made in America, non toxic, biodegradable, and BPA-free laundry care. Honestly, I couldn’t be more excited about having non-toxic soap. People- this is kinda like eating non-toxic food and breathing non-toxic air. Your body absorbs all those toxic Yuckies in conventional soap through your skin- yes, even if only your clothes were washed in it. It absorbs into the fabric, then into your skin. And that laundry rinse water? Loads of chemicals are washed out in that too, right into our water supply. Again- yuck! But- totally avoidable. Choose better.

    • Gift Card: $10 gift card to Bead & Reel (also available in larger amounts). Cha-ching. An advance towards growing your ethical fashion wardrobe. Happy Shopping!

I hope you will check out Bead & Reel for your ethical and fair trade gifting this holiday season (& beyond). Also, don’t miss their informative and inspiring blog. I have learned a lot on there!

I want to leave you with this~ There are actually a lot of good people doing good things for the planet and the future of the fashion industry, and they have solutions that we all should be taking advantage of. Again, I believe that when you know better, you do better. It feels good to make choices that I know are positively affecting the planet. Cheers! Happy shopping!

Get involved. Become part of the movement for a healthier, more sustainable fashion world. I believe that together we can change the face of fashion.  Wear what you love and wear what empowers you. Also consider where your clothes were made and who made them. Your purchase may empower the person who made them (or not).

Shop wisely. Every purchase is a vote. Make yours count. Dress in clothing you love and that have a positive impact on you and the rest of the world.

Thank you to Bead & Reel for collaborating on this post.

*The items featured on this blog are what I consider sustainable fashion and/or are items I have owned for a very long time- which I would then consider a sustainable fashion choice simply for the longevity of it.
