  • A Fashion Love Story & the Ethical Influencers Network

If you area new to this blog, welcome! You have entered a seriously style-loving, sustainable fashion, confidence-enhancing zone. In the past this blog served as a side-kick to my fitness & holistic lifestyle coaching business. Today, my blog is my business. And largely, it is my life. Though holistic health & fitness will always be a part of my identity, at this point in time, it has taken a back seat to my fashion advocacy endeavors.

This blog is a space that has become an extension of my personal life. Because it is personal. Empowerment, confidence, self-worth and sustainability are very personal matters to me- also integral to living a truly holistic life. Caring about yourself, what you put on your body and how it affects our planet… It feels really good to know you are doing the best you can for yourself and for others.

I care deeply about being a source of inspiration to other women. Sharing my personal style, unashamed and unfiltered, is meant to serve as my creative outlet, and above all, as a catalyst to the confidence of each woman who happens to land here.

My aesthetic may not be one that we share necessarily, but I hope that having the guts and gumption to put yourself out there is something we do share. When you shine, we all shine a little brighter as a result of it.

I also write and share here because I care deeply about preserving our environment and reducing the waste cycle of the fast fashion industry, one in which I took part in for the greater part of my life- over-shopping, over-spending, over-consuming. But, when truth hits you in the face, you can not run from it.

When you know better, you do better.

I’ve always been a bit of an environmental, waste-conserving nut, but it wasn’t until I watched the documentary, True Cost, that I was able to connect the dots of my shopping habits with the fashion industry and the effects on the environment.

Sadly, Fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world, second to oil. That really sucks, and is really saddening. Knowing that, I had to do something- at least about myself, and how I showed up in the world.

I will share more on the True Cost documentary in a future post, but please don’t hesitate to read more about it {here}, find them on YouTube {here} and watch it if you are interested (available on Netflix, iTunes).

    Taking action is empowering:
I recently joined the Ethical Influencers Network, an innovative group of writers, creatives and influencers who believe in sustainability, fair trade, transparency, and living an ethical lifestyle. They are out to change the world and the face of fashion. I am honored to be a part of a group of women that care as much about sustainable, ethical fashion as I do. So much more to learn, more to come. Stay tuned…

In honor of this month’s Fashion Revolution, the Ethical Influencers Network is sharing their fashion love stories on the Ethical Influencer Network Instagram account {check it out here}.

The fashion love story is an ode to an item of clothing you already own that means a lot to you. Like an old favorite pair of denim, a cashmere sweater, or a leather jacket you’ve worn for years, and will wear for years to come; one that you can restyle, reuse, and repurpose over and over again, rather than buying a new one.

I really love a fashion love story because I honestly have a love story for everything I own. And it reminds me- before I step out to shop for something new, I will step back into my closet and peruse my current inventory (there’s plenty of it, that’s for sure). It’s like ‘giving new life to a life,’ a reason I love secondhand shopping so much.

How can you fall back in love with the things you already own?

Shown here is my Fashion Love Story- one of them at least- a vintage treasure I found at one of my all-time favorite thrift stores Arcs Value Village.

This top hits many of my fashion hot-buttons:

    • vintage
    • velvet
    • patchwork
    • simple lines, sassy details

Also shown, all vintage items from Arcs Value Village:

    • faux fur coat
    • denim cropped flares
    • shoes

Please feel free to join us in our Fashion Love Stories. Share a photo of an item you love, and tell us a little bit about why you love it. Use the #ethicalinfluencernetwork hashtag.

Get involved. Become part of the movement for a better world and healthier more sustainable fashion world. I believe that together we can change the face of fashion.

Every purchase is a vote. Wear what you love and wear what empowers you. Also consider where your clothes where made and who made them. Your purchase may empower the person who made them (or not). Shop wisely.
